| SAM HYDE HARRIS (1889-1977) Sam Hyde Harris was born in Middlesex, England, in 1889, immigrated to the U.S. with his family in 1904 settling in Los Angeles. He worked under and with some of California's foremost artists: Stanton Mac Donald-Wright, Will Foster, Frank Tolles Chamberlain, Lawrence Murphy, and Hanson Puthuff. He is a master of the plein air works. Harris was also a commercial artist throughout his life, most notably with the Sante Fe Railroad, and an art instructor at the Chouinard Art School. He died in Los Angeles in 1977, having won over 100 awards during 40 years of exhibiting in Southern California.
